📌 AI case study: Amazon's anticipatory shipping

The challenge: E-commerce lacks the instant gratification of physical stores due to shipping delays.

The solution: Anticipatory shipping aims to predict demand and pre-emptively position inventory closer to potential customers.

The impact: Faster delivery, improved customer experience, and potentially increased sales and margins.

Leveraging its vast trove of customer purchase data and advanced AI algorithms, Amazon launched its Anticipatory Shipping initiative in 20241.

The system predicts what customers will likely buy and pre-positions those products in fulfillment centers closer to them even before they place an order.

This results in faster delivery times, improved customer satisfaction, and increased sales for Amazon, while smaller retailers without access to such extensive data and AI capabilities struggle to match these delivery speeds.
