How can we design AI features to be clear and easy to understand?

So users know what the AI is doing, trust its recommendations, and feel comfortable using them?

While traditional user-centric design principles are essential for AI features, let's push the boundaries for the technically advanced user. Imagine an interactive visualization tool that allows deep dives into the AI's decision-making process.

This could involve real-time cause-and-effect breakdowns or customizable simulations to test the AI's responses under various scenarios.

Furthermore, an open-source approach to specific aspects of AI should be considered, allowing vetted developers to contribute to specific functionalities or bias mitigation strategies. This fosters a culture of transparency and collaboration, ultimately leading to more robust and trustworthy AI.

From the previous maildrops, “LLMs lack human intelligence, and won't match anytime soon,” and “The embodiment enigma,” this week, I explore how alternative approaches can bring more transparency to what we call a revolution evolving behind the curtains.
