How can we build trust in the algorithmic age? | AI this week in the news; use cases; for the techies
Hello friends, and welcome to the weekly digest, week 19 of 2024.
This week, I have a question: “How can we build trust in the algorithmic age?” What should we know that we don’t know?
Is AI a platform shift or a paradigm shift?
The algorithmic age ushers in a new era, but not without its blind spots. Complex AI systems, by their very nature, hold the potential for unforeseen consequences. We may not be able to predict every twist and turn, but that shouldn't paralyze us. The answer lies in continuous vigilance: monitoring AI systems, openly discussing potential risks, and prioritizing human control over critical decisions.

How could an effective human-in-the-loop (HITL) approach bridge the trust gap and ensure responsible AI developments?
Concerns regarding data privacy, algorithmic bias, lack of transparency (black box problem), and potential misuse by malicious actors fostering public apprehension are just a few of the many challenges Humanity has to address.
By embracing ongoing research and a precautionary approach, we can navigate the uncharted territory of the algorithmic age and ensure AI serves, not subverts, humanity.
Why do we trust algorithms?
How do we conceive trust with machines in the long term?

How do you build trust during the algorithmic age?
