📨 Weekly digest: 51 2024 | Our advancements in uniting AI
How AI shaped a year of impact at Wild Intelligence | AI this week in the news; use cases; tools for the techies
👋🏻 Hello legends, and welcome to the Wild Intelligence, weekly digest 51 of 2024.
We’re excited by our advancements in uniting AI, research, and cyber safety to build AI-powered safe systems.
Our work at the crossing of these landscapes is to help decision leaders, corporate executives, and startup founders bring the specific knowledge, the AI mindset, and the collaborations that shape our work — all driven by a shared commitment to building a better future for everyone.
As advances in AI continue to revolutionize scientific discovery, our mission is to integrate AI safety as a core part of our efforts, driving progress toward our goal of harnessing technology to unlock more capabilities and improve integrity.
There are many unknowns about what’s next, so we have a limited understanding of how new technologies will evolve and what it takes to be safe.
However, we know that the only way to evolve in this new AI era is to build.
Let’s reflect, just a while back—even though it seems like a century ago—despite many prior warnings, every institution was unprepared for the coronavirus pandemic.
This massive failure of institutional effectiveness will reverberate for the rest of the decade. More than four years later, where we are and what will happen next is still unclear.
Yet, it’s never too early to ask why and what we must do about it.
Many of us would like to pinpoint the causes and consequences for one group, a political party, a government, or another, whether it's a pandemic or the implications and use limitations of a disruptive technology.
But the harsh reality is that we fail, despite hard work and often extraordinary sacrifice by many people—nobody is really prepared for anything bigger than our own perception of the world.
Part of the problem is foresight, a failure of imagination.
The other part of the problem is what we don’t do in advance and what we fail to do now.
That is a failure of action.
AI offers unprecedented opportunities to change that; AI is precisely here to help expand our ability to *build*.
We are determined to build computing systems that enable AI safety at scale, supporting the community at the forefront of these revolutionary tools.

🦾 AI elsewhere on the interweb
#OpenAI posted a long blog post with screenshots of messages to and from Elon Musk, saying, in the context of his lawsuit, that he wanted OpenAI to be a for-profit company controlled by him. In contrast, he now says he wanted a non-profit and didn’t want control. [LINK]
#Apple launched the next batch of ‘Apple Intelligence’ features, with ChatGPT and Google Lens integration. The most interesting feature announced at WWDC in the summer remains to ship, though - a new Siri with a systematic index of what you do on your phone so that you can ask ‘Where am I meeting my brother for lunch next week?’ and it can work out the answer. #Klarna became one of the first viral AI case studies last year when it claimed it was replacing its internal systems with ChatGPT. Now it says it’s cut headcount by 20% (mostly through attrition). Reaction amongst its peers can best be described as skeptical. [LINK]
