📨 Weekly digest: 15 2025 | The algorithmic colleague: Has AI outgrown the need for "team"?
How quickly are we approaching that reality | AI this week in the news; use cases; tools for the techies

👋🏻 Hello legends, and welcome to the weekly digest, week 15 of 2025.
The very notion of "team," that cornerstone of organizational structure, is undergoing a seismic shift. We stand at the precipice of a new era, where the lines between human contribution and artificial intelligence blur and the traditional concept of collaborative effort is fundamentally challenged.
Recent research illuminates a stark reality: AI can replicate, and in some cases surpass, the collective output of human teams. It's not merely a tool for efficiency; it's a paradigm-altering force that compels us to question the very essence of how we organize and execute work.
The implications are profound. AI's capacity to transcend functional silos, to provide balanced solutions regardless of professional background, and even to evoke positive emotional responses, demands a radical reassessment.
We must move beyond viewing AI as a supplementary asset and recognize its potential as a strategic partner capable of redefining our operational frameworks.
This transformation necessitates a shift in organizational culture and a move toward hybrid collaboration models in which human intelligence and AI capabilities are seamlessly integrated.
The speed at which AI research and innovation advance cannot be overstated.
Longitudinal tracking and analysis are now more critical than ever, not just for researchers but for innovators, entrepreneurs, students, policymakers, journalists, and, indeed, every stakeholder in the future of work.
The rapid evolution of AI capabilities means that our understanding of its impact must constantly be updated, and our strategies must be continually refined.
What holds true today may be obsolete tomorrow, necessitating a proactive and agile approach to adaptation.
As evidenced by Shopify's recent internal memo1, where "reflexive AI usage is now a baseline expectation," the integration of AI into core operational processes is not a distant future but a present reality.
We must invest in AI training and development programs to equip our workforce with technical skills and foster a new understanding of collaboration. We must also establish robust data governance frameworks to ensure ethical and responsible use and navigate the evolving social dynamics of a workplace increasingly shaped by AI.
The future of teams will be more adaptive, fluid, and reliant on algorithmic precision. AI-enabled project teams, AI-augmented innovation hubs, and AI-driven decision support systems will become the norm.
The ability to rapidly assemble and disassemble teams based on real-time data and AI-generated insights will become a competitive advantage.
Perhaps the most unsettling question we must confront is whether the traditional concept of "team" is becoming obsolete.
As AI continues to evolve and does so at an accelerating pace, its capacity to replicate and surpass human cognitive functions will only increase.
Are we witnessing the dawn of an era where the individual, augmented by AI, becomes the ultimate unit of productivity?
Will the need for human-centric teams diminish and be replaced by a network of AI-powered individuals, each operating at peak efficiency?
This is not a future to fear, but a reality we must prepare for—a reality in which the definition of "team" may soon be redefined beyond recognition or altogether discarded, and the timeline for this transformation is shrinking rapidly.
What do you think?
I am looking forward to reading your thoughts in a comment.
Yael.

What is AI safety
As we’ve widely argued in this publication, we might see the development of hugely powerful machine learning systems in the next few decades. These systems have the potential to transform society, and this transformation could bring huge benefits—but only if we avoid the threats.
